Facebook – Add Admin

To add an administrator to your Facebook page:

1. Go to Facebook.com and log in.

2. In the upper right hand corner, click on the “down arrow”

3. From the drop down menu, under  “Use Facebook as:” choose the account that you would like to add the admin to, like “Steve Pillitu Graphic Design” for example.

4. Click on that account.

5. Under the name of your page (ex. “Steve’s Web Toolbox”) click on “Edit info” or “Edit”.

6. On the left hand side navigation, click on “Manage Admins”

7. While on the “Manage Admins” page, click “Add another admin”.

8. In the space provided, type in the email address associated with the Facebook account of the person you would like to add as an administrator of your account.

9. Click “Save Changes”

10.  When the dialogue box pops up that says “Change page admins” type in your Facebook password and then click “Confirm”.

11. If you’ve done this correctly, on the next screen you will see the new person’s name appear along with their Facebook avatar (photo).

Okay, so good so far. So how does the new admin gain access to the page? I was added as a group’s admin and I can’t log on.

    • spillitu says:

Once you log into facebook with your own personal login and password:
      1. Click on “Account” in the upper right hand corner.
      2. From the drop down menu, click “Use Facebook as Page”
      3. Choose the account you would like to change the admin settings on and click the “Switch” button.
      4. In the upper right hand corner click the “Edit Page” button.

You should now have access to the group’s page, settings, permissions, etc.

I am trying to add an admin but it keeps asking for a password and it’s telling me that my password is incorrect. What password does it want?

    • spillitu says:

It’s asking for your facebook account password. Is it possible that you are currently logged in under another person’s name, perhaps another household member?

    • Cornelle says:

Hi, Did you get to figure this out as I am also having ther same issue. When I try to add an admin I’m told my password is incorrect. When I try and change the password I’m told my existing one is incorect too yet I can log out and in no problem.

      thx

      • spillitu says:

It’s hard to keep up with all of Facebook’s changes. Just when you find out where they’ve moved something to, they move it again! I have not been able to duplicate the problem on my machine. However, if I come across an answer, I’ll post it here. Please let me know if you discover one.

      • Beth Neibert says:

        Hi Cornelle,
There are two things you can try. Occasionally, Facebook seems to be a little tweakie when we least expect it, but these tips work for me:
        1) Clean your browser cache. Unfortunately, even the errors get recorded and it doesn’t always clear no matter how many times we know we’re putting our passwords in correctly.
        2) Instead of going to your Fan Page via the link in the upper right corner, try this:
        A) Remain using Facebook under your personal name.
        B) If you are using the new Facebook timeline, select the “home” link in the upper right corner.
        C) Select the Fan Page link that you desire to “add a new admin” on from the left margin under your profile picture.
        D) Once on your Fan Page, you’ll see the admins listed in the upper right corner, select “See All”
        E) This will open the screen that will allow you to add the new person using their name or email address and you can proceed with Step #8 above.

I hope you find this information helpful; Steve and I would love to have a reply back to let us know it worked. Thank you!

        Here’s to your success!

There is no Use Facebook as page in my facebook account

    • spillitu says:

Thank you Donald. Facebook changed their navigation slightly. Now they have a “down arrow” at the top, upper right. When you click on it, you get a drop-down menu. One of them is “Use Facebook as Page”. I’ve updated the instructions accordingly.

  4. Heaven says:

But Where Do I Find The Password To Add An Admin?

  5. lauren says:

do i have to be friends with the person i am adding as an admin on my page ??

  6. Jason says:

Same issue as previously mentioned. Its asking for a password. I have typed in my log in password but it tells me it is incorrect.

  7. laura says:

our PTA has a facebook page (fan page) the lady who set the page up has made me an admin and then deleted herself as she is no longer volunteering, but the password is hers I am assuming and I so I don’t know it. but no option comes up to change the password. she will not give me the password as it is her personal password and doesn’t want me to know it. is there anyway around this or do we have to shut down the page??

    • spillitu says:

I will make some inquiries and get back to you in a few days. My first inclination is to ask if she’s willing to add herself back in as an admin to keep the page going, allowing you to make changes to it, without giving out her personal password. Outside of that, I’ll ask my good friend and Social Media expert Beth Neibert if she has another solution.
